Norbulingka

Norbulingka is an ancient palace and surrounding park in Lhasa, Tibet, China. It was constructed in 1755 as the traditional summer residence of the successive Dalai Lamas. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by the 7th Dalai Lama and flaunts beautiful Tibetan palace architecture. Norbulingka sprawls over an area of around 36 hectares and remains the biggest man made garden in Tibet.

Norbulingka Park is a significant attraction for nature seekers. It is counted among the most popular horticultural parks in Tibet. It has a splendid setting and looks even more spectacular during summer and autumn months. The park hosts many dancing, singing and musical events apart from the annual Sho Dun or 'Yoghurt Festival'.

Norbulingka literally means “Treasure Garden” in the Tibetan language. Norbulingka is divided into three parts. There is a courtyard facing the palace. Then there is the main palace and a forest cover. The garden has been adorned with green meadows and remains the world’s highest-located garden.

Norbulingka Park is world’s highest, largest and best-preserved historical horticultural gardens. This offers a perfect mix of architecture and sculpture arts. Visit here and explore over 30,000 cultural relics displayed. The place lets you walk down the memory lanes. It faced huge destruction in the past. However, in 2001, its protection work was initiated by the 4th Tibetan Work Session of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.
