Potala Palace

Potala Palace on the Red Hill of Lhasa is a beautiful landmark attraction. It acted as the residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India. At present, it has been converted into a museum and World Heritage Site. The place was destroyed by lightning and war and was later reconstructed in 1645. Today it rises to a height of 117 meters and is 360 meters in width. Potala Palace sprawls over an area of130,000 square meters and looks extremely beautiful in outlook. Visit here and spot its impressive buildings, complex constructions, spiritual atmosphere and some fine artworks.

Potala Palace has a beautiful 7 level structure made of stone and wood. It acts as the administrative body of Tibetan Government. ?The top layer of the structure has Dalai Lama’s bedroom “Sunshine Hall”. The hall was adorned with extreme luxury and housed worship hall, scripture hall, bedrooms and many other rooms. Fifth and sixth layers of Potala Palace are dedicated to living and work. The 4th floor has the Dongyoujiyuanman Hall which is the biggest hall here. Here the enthronement of Dalai Lama other religious and political activities was conducted. You will also see a broad square named Deyangsha from where Dalai Lama used to observe various outdoor activities.

Red Palace stands in the middle of the Potala Palace. It houses many scripture halls and Buddha halls. The red roof is topped with a golden rooftop. On the top rest 3 golden pagodas. Their architecture flaunts an impressive Tibetan Style.
