Begnas Lake

Begnas Lake is a beautiful freshwater Lake in Pokhara Lekhnath Kaski district of Nepal. Begnas is the third largest lake of Nepal and second largest after Phewa Lake, among the eight lakes in Pokhara Valley. The lake with its huge number of resorts is a popular destination for tourists visiting Pokhara. The Lake has a number of swampy areas around it, many of which have been converted to paddy fields day by day. The water from the lake is used for irrigation and some parts of the lake are used as caged fisheries.

Attractions
The north side of the lake is crowded with swamps and villages which have seen a major increase in the amount of terraced fields around the lake. A part of the lake is used as caged fisheries, which is why Begnas has a renowned market of freshwater fishes.

Another major attraction is the Begnas market, flooded with local men, tourists, villagers selling home grown products and some sprawling restaurants and shops. The market is one of the happening places around to socialize with extremely friendly and helpful people around.

A ridge passes between the Begnas tal and Rupa tal which gives spectacular views of the lake as well as the snowcapped Himalayan peaks. The lake view and the Himalayas are so fascinatingly beautiful that one can never get enough of it. One can paddle boat towards the other end of the lake in the early morning.

One can also visit the international mountain museum which showcases the real life gears used by some of the greatest mountaineers who scaled the heights of every mountain in Nepal.

Lose yourself in the pristine natural setting of the placid lake surrounded by lush greenery and overlooked by Himalayan peaks. You can also rent a boat and set out on the water, go fishing and enjoy amidst the tranquil atmosphere of the Pokhara Valley.
