Enigmatic Nepal An Abode of Flamboyant Flags

Bhaktapur

Celebrated for its magnificent architecture, the city of Bhaktapur is the living representation of how Kathmandu Valley would have looked like during the medieval periods. Although the 2015 tragic earthquake caused terrible devastation and loss of life, only a few temples were destroyed and there is still so much to see here. The sky high temples built in pagoda style, fine clay pottery, and massive royal courtyards, are some of the major attraction of Bhaktapur.

History

Bhaktapur was the ruling throne of the Kathmandu valley, but was divided by King Yakshya Malla in the year 1482 among his three sons, eventually losing the nation to the Shah dynasty from Gorkha. But, before losing the kingdom to Shah kings, Bhaktapur was renowned for its Malla Yuddha; a fierce combat between two wrestlers.
