Incredible India Cultural, Historical & Spiritual

Allahabad

Allahabad is a sacred city in Uttar Pradesh where the three holiest rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati merge. Each of these rivers is revered in Hinduism. The city holds great importance among Hindu pilgrims as it hosts the biggest religious festival of Kumbh Mela when pilgrims visit here from all over the world to take a dip into the holy waters. The history of Allahabad is fascinating too and can be seen in various historical wonders sprawling here.

Triveni Sangam is perhaps the reason why Allahabad receives Hindu pilgrims from all parts of the world. As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that you can wash away all your sins by taking bath in holy water here. This is the place where the very popular Kumbh Mela is celebrated. Kumbh Mela is the largest gathering of pilgrims on the planet. This glorious fair is visited by many sadhus and saints of Hinduism apart from Hindu devotees.

Allahabad Planetarium, raised closed to Anand Bhawan in 1979, is a must visit attraction here. Also known with the name of Jawahar Museum, this place has a moon model where you can measure your weight on Moon and Jupiter. Also visit Khusro Bagh in the city built by King Jahangir. The tombstone is dedicated to the king’s son Khusro and stands in the centre of a garden.

Allahabad Fort also catches the fancy of every traveller visiting Allahabad. It is a splendid marvel of architecture raised in 1583. It is the largest fort ever built by Akbar. Entry is permitted inside the fort only during the Kumbh Mela. Take a boat ride around the fort to catch its beautiful glimpses. Ashoka Pillar is another historical wonder of the city built in the 16th century. The pillar has Ashokan inscription written in Brahmi.
