Temples of Khajuraho remain the last relics of the time of the Chandela kings. These superbly adorned temples were raised over a period of 200 years and have been categorized into Eastern, Western and Southern wings. The Western Wing is the most popular one with some of the hugest and gorgeous temples like Kandariya Mahadev Temple, Devi Jagadambe Temple, Chaunsat Yogini and Chitragupta Temple. Here a fascinating light and sound show is organised every evening in Hindi and English languages. The Eastern Group mostly consists of Jain Temples with Parswanath being the largest one. Kandariya Mahadeo Temple: This remains one of the most impressive temples here displaying over 800 sculptures. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu deity, Shiva. Here rests a Shiva Linga nestling with around 646 statues.
Lakshmana Temple: This is the largest temple in the Western Group of Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and features intricately carved statues. ?Here you will fall in love with its high carved ceiling apart from a stunning looking female bracket figure.
Matangeshwar Temple: Matangeshwar Temple does not display intricate decor or exotic sculptures but houses an eight-foot Shiva Linga which attracts travellers and locals alike. ?This is a very popular Shiva temple where huge morning aarti is organised every day. The temple sees huge celebrations of Shivratri festival devoted to Lord Shiva.
Adinath Temple: This temple displays carvings of Yakshis, a mythical female figure.? It flaunts Islamic architecture and is dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar, Adinath. Lustrous gardens surround the temple and add to its outlook.
