Puri has earned great popularity due to the majestic Rath Yatra organised here. This is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites for Hindus (Char-Dham) due to the famous Jagannath temple situated here. The history of Puri is magical. It takes you back to 3rd century B. C. Puri has a range of places to visit apart from just religious attractions.

Sri Jagannath Puri Temple is one of the most visited shrines of Puri built in the 11th century by King Indradyumna. The temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Vishnu. It is part of the Char Dham Yatra along with Badrinath, Dwarka and Rameshwaram. The temple has a splendid Oriya architecture and is known for celebrating the vivacious Rath Yatra.

Jagannath Rath Yatra remains one of the biggest religious celebrations in India dedicated to Lord Jagannath. Huge processions are carried out during the festival with deities on life size chariots. Puri Rath Yatra welcomes over 4-5 lakh pilgrims every year. ?

Another famous attraction of Puri is the Puri Beach known for shimmering water and a beautiful coastline. People visit here to enjoy serenity of the place apart from taking a dip into the water here which is believed to purify the soul. Swargadwar Beach is another charismatic beach of the city which is secluded and beautiful.

The beauty of Lake Chilka is also worth capturing in Puri. This is Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon where you can spot different species of local as well as migratory birds between November and February.
